The St. David's Library supports the mission of the school through a library program that encourages the development of faith, virtue and knowledge in our students. The goals of the program are to provide access to information and resources in various forms, promote the love of reading, and encourage our students to become effective researchers and discerning, life-long learners.

St. David's Middle/Upper School Library , located in St. Stephens Hall, serves the students, faculty and staff in grades five through twelve. The Lower School Library, also located in St. Stephens Hall, serves the kindergarten through fourth grade community.

In addition to reference and circulating book collections, the St. David's Library subscribes to a number of periodicals and has non-print media collections in each library. The Library also subscribes to online research databases that are accessible on campus and from home via the library section of our school's website (see below). Passwords for remote access may be obtained from library staff. The Library's electronic catalog of the on-site collection is available from computers in the libraries and throughout campus. Computers in the libraries also provide Internet access, Microsoft Office and other educational software.

Library Instruction

All students have flexible access to the libraries throughout the day. Lower School students also attend library class once each week to learn library skills, enjoy reading enrichment activities, and to check out library materials. Students in fifth and ninth grades and all new students receive an orientation to the Library and its resources at the beginning of the school year. Throughout the year, library staff works in collaboration with classroom and enrichment teachers to integrate information literacy skills into the curriculum.

Library Programs

A number of programs are sponsored by the Library, including Book Lover's Week, a week-long celebration of books; an annual book fair; author visits; and other special programs to foster the love of reading in our school community. The Summer Reading List provides suggestions to encourage reading over the summer months. The Accelerated Reader Program is used by students in kindergarten through fifth grade. (See Library Links on this page for access to St. David's AR Quiz List.) Through the Birthday Book Club and Gift Book Program, the school community may donate books in honor or memory of a special teacher, student or loved one. Library staff also sponsors an Upper School Book Club, a Middle School Book Club, and a Student Library Assistant Program for Middle and Upper School students.
