Dear St. David's Community,
As we come to the close of our eighth week of school, I wanted to thank you all for your spirit of cooperation and partnership. In an effort to fulfill the mission of St. David's School, I continue to be inspired by the many wonderful accomplishments of our students, faculty, staff and coaches-academically, artistically, athletically and spiritually. Truly, we are blessed.
As an independent Episcopal school, the mission of St. David's is "to prepare young men and women for college and life by providing challenging opportunities to excel in the vital areas of faith, virtue, and knowledge." Strategically sized to maintain a low teacher-student ratio, this school combines a traditional and innovative curriculum with teaching methods that provide students with a strong academic and Christian foundation.
Over the last several years, student achievements have included: perfect scores on the National Latin Exam; seventy-nine percent of sophomores, juniors, and seniors scoring a three or higher on the Advanced Placement (AP) exams; average SAT scores of 1236; and, a 100 percent annual college acceptance rate, including acceptances to such prestigious schools as Davidson, Duke, N.C. State, Princeton, Purdue, UNC-Chapel Hill, UVA, Wake Forest and the U.S. Military Academy.
Academically, St. David's students have achieved remarkable results which have been recognized and rewarded by top universities with numerous distinguished scholarships. Artistically, our drama students perform three productions a year, our visual arts students are provided with ample opportunity to exhibit their work on campus and in the surrounding community, and our music students can choose from chorus, concert band, jazz band, and wind ensemble. Athletically, we are off to one of the best seasons ever; our varsity football team is 7-0, the varsity soccer team is 15-2-2, our tennis program continues to win decisively and our remaining fall sports teams are extremely competitive. Spiritually, our campus is alive with daily chapel services, praise bands, Friday Morning Fellowship, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and other campus groups and clubs designed to challenge and inspire our students. It is this firm foundation upon which I wish to build.
But we need your help.
As we kick-off our annual fund for this academic year, we ask for your prayerful support and participation in this most important endeavor. As you have heard me say, "Tuition does not cover the cost to educate. Therefore we need to raise additional dollars in voluntary gift support to help bridge the gap between tuition and the true cost to educate."
Our Annual Report for 2005-2006 will be mailed out shortly; enclosed in that publication will be a note from Steve and Sally Breedlove, our new Annual Fund Chairs. Please prayerfully consider a gift of financial support according to your means. We value your commitment to St. David's and appreciate your faithfulness. Let's make this year the best one yet!
Onward and upward,
Kevin J. Lockerbie, Headmaster
